Wellington Dementia Symposium
- Written by Dementia Wellington
On Thursday 3 May, we held the inaugural Wellington Dementia Symposium. It was hosted by Dementia Wellington, Dementia New Zealand, and the New Zealand Dementia Cooperative, and very kindly sponsored by Bupa and Public Trust.
Thank you to everyone who attended; the event was a huge success. For many people, the highlight of the day was the panel discussion from Dementia Wellington clients about their experiences with dementia and what they do to keep enjoying life. It really reinforced why community-wide dementia support is so crucial, because everyone benefits from ensuring wonderful people like our clients are actively included in the community.
It was interesting to see strong themes of collaboration and participation emerging through many of the talks, as well as the message about being prepared for the future – individually through wills and EPOAs, and collectively through recognising the challenges and opportunities of an aging population.
A collection of the speakers’ slides is available here (scroll down to see the link for each presentation).
