Four out of five New Zealanders are affected by dementia, making it one of New Zealand’s biggest and growing social and health issues. And there is still stigma, discrimination, and a misunderstanding associated with dementia.
This new and exciting Dementia Friends programme aims to change that by helping people learn about dementia and how they can help.
Dementia Friends has been informed and shaped by the voices and input of Kiwis living with dementia.
By becoming a Dementia Friend, you’ll learn more about dementia and the impact it has. By making a commitment to a follow up action, you will be helping people with dementia to live well.
Becoming a Dementia Friend is simple – just work through the quick online programme. You will get to learn about dementia, meet Rita, Helen and Alister, three everyday kiwis living well with dementia, and learn how you can help.
By committing to an action, you will help to make a positive difference for people living with dementia. Big or small – your action will count. This could be something small, like wearing your Dementia Friends badge or wristband or dropping round for a cuppa with a person living with dementia in your community. A bigger action might be giving up a couple of hours a week to volunteer for your local Dementia association.
Just make the commitment that’s right for you. What are you waiting for? CLICK HERE and become a Dementia Friend today!
